Washington National Cathedral will
celebrate Maryland Major State Day on Sunday, April 20. We are honored
that Bishop Shand has been invited to be the celebrant at the service.
The Cathedral invites Marylanders of all
denominations and faiths to gather in worship, prayer, and fellowship
to celebrate Maryland’s service to the nation. Meet other members of
the Old Line State, including invited members of Congress, religious
leaders, and others from our home state. Tours and other events will be
offered throughout the weekend’s celebration.
The schedule is: 10:00 a.m.Sunday Forum: Critical
Issues in the Light of Faith
11:15 a.m. Holy Eucharist;
12:30 p.m.
Reception
12:45 p.m. Ongoing 35-minute tours begin.
We are thrilled that the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Choir will sing for 20 minutes before the
service. The Music Director is our own Sheila Harleston, wife of Bob
Harleston who was recently on the Standing Committee, members of St.
Peter's, Salisbury. The choir will sing unaccompanied sacred music for
15-20 minutes. Since the Eucharist (with Bishop Shand as Celebrant)
begins at 11:15 a.m., the choir will probably begin around 10:55.
We've had some inquiries at the bishop's
office about bus transportation. The bishop discussed this with the
convocational deans about doing this on a convocational level, and it
appears no arrangements have been made. There is a new parking garage
on the Cathedral grounds, however, that should make parking much easier.
